To capture project information and activities, TabTool provides, among other things, multi-line text fields. Here, you can enter individual information, for example, to describe defects, document meeting decisions or capture daily events in the construction diary.
In your daily work, there are probably certain statements and phrases that you use repeatedly in the same wording. To save you from having to type them out each time, TabTool offers the "custom text blocks" feature.
What are custom text blocks?
Custom text blocks are templates for text fields that you can name and formulate individually. For example, you can store standard texts for defect descriptions or construction diary entries. To use your text templates, simply click on the text block icon to the right of the text input field.
How can I create custom text blocks in TabTool?
To create custom text blocks, navigate to the Administration section in the central TabTool menu and click on the Master Data menu item.
In the Master Data menu, open the 'Text Blocks' menu item. Then click the '+' button in the right-hand column to create a new text template.
A text input window will appear on the right, where you can enter the name and content of the text template.
Define relevant file types and text fields
You can also specify in which file types (e.g. inspection, defect, construction diary, etc.) you want to use the text template.
To do this, click the buttonon the left below the text input field and select the relevant file types from the pop-up list. By clicking the "Add" button, these will be linked to your new text template.
If you later want to remove the link between a file type and a text block, use the buttonfor that.
All file types in which the text template can be used are now listed below the input field of your text template.
If a file type contains multiple text fields, you can further narrow down the use of the template by specifying which of the available text fields or sections the template is intended for.
If no checkbox is selected for any section, the template will apply to the entire file type.
This selection option is especially helpful if you have already created a large number of text templates:
When using text blocks, you won’t have to scroll through a long list of templates, as only the templates defined as relevant will be displayed.
Inserting text blocks into text fields
To retrieve the saved text blocks while filling out a file in TabTool, click theicon to the right of the text field.
A list of text blocks available for the text field will then open.
If you want to preview the content, click theicon to the right of the text block’s name.
By clicking on one of the names in the text block list, you insert the corresponding template into the text field.
